Land of sweet surprises

We brought home the remaining boxes of packed away belongings last weekend, unearthing a mass of near-forgotten books, which now fill the cupboards in the hall.  Among them were a few treasured childhood volumes, including this reproduction of an antique revolving picture book.

A few days later, out in the garden, in the still-to-be-sorted no-man’s land just beyond the newly-planted hornbeam hedge, a purple crocus peeped: a surprise survivor of recent landscaping works.

Once the flower has faded, I’ll move this brave bulb to a more visible location.

  1. The lone crocus is lovely, too. And the illustrations in the antique book are fascinating. The children look too beautifully dressed for playing!
