Walks at this time of year are punctuated by frequent interruptions: stooping to collect hazelnuts in their fresh green casings, pausing to admire the berries in the hedgerows. A few treasures always make it home with us.
We rediscovered the idea of the nature table by displaying our finds in a glass jar; replacing the lid of a coffee jar with a large, glass ramekin dish, then placing it upside down in an old cash tray to create a domed display case.
Things to look for:
Rosehips, hawthorn berries, hazelnuts and filberts.
The first turned leaves; the first fallen conkers.
Field maple helicopters, beech mast, trailing bryony and old man’s beard.
What else have you found?
