This is the month to enjoy walks down the lane and out into the open farmland beyond to watch the growing crops. Skylarks warble overhead and butterflies flit as we pass. There are wildflowers to look for and tall grasses to run our fingers through.
The local farm shop promises rich pickings this month, while here in the garden there are courgettes and peas to harvest. Simple summer meals of fresh produce are always best enjoyed outside. And a cheery tablecloth flung over the peeling paint of our picnic table, with a jam jar filled with flowers plonked on top, quickly makes a summery setting for lazy lunches.
